Post Office Food Drive

The Springfield Branch 45 of National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Post office, the AFL-CIO, and your local United Way conducted a food drive to help needy families in Clark, Champaign and Logan Counties. Donations of canned food goods and other non-perishable food items were left near mailboxes on walking routes or placed in mailboxes on rural routes. All food donated to the Second Harvest Food bank remained in the county in which it was collected.

This will be the 15th annual NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) Food Drive. Last year, 39,078 pounds of food (33,933 in Clark County and 5,145 in Champaign County) were collected at a critical time when food supplies remaining from the holiday period were exhausted. Due to the high demand, our goal this year is 50,000 pounds, or a FULL semi load!

ALL FOOD stays in the county where it is donated to support local soup kitchens, pantries, and shelters in need of supplies to care for the hungry in our community.  Every can and boxed shelf stable item adds to our success.  Best of all, the post office will come to your mailbox to pick it up!

Date:   Saturday May 8, 2010
